The Sports Ministry has released a draft of its Child Protection Policy to the national sports associations.
According to the draft, there is a hike in child abuse reported cases and indicates all NSA officials will receive training in order to help identify and report child abuse.
A power point presentation on the policy was displayed for stakeholders feedback at a meeting held last Thursday.
According to the DCFS child abuse statistics physical, sexual and emotional abuse have risen in the past 4 years with 2014 being the highest at 127 reported cases of child abuse and neglect.
This year, 36 cases of physical abuse have been recorded, along with 39 cases of sexual abuse and 33 cases of emotional abuse a total of 111, which is inclusive of other forms.
It is anticipated that this policy will be finalised before the end of 2016.
In the past three years two coaches have been charged by police for sex crimes with underage athletes that they coach.
