Rotary pirates entice kids to read

Even the youngest pirates on our islands can find activities as Pirates Week approaches. For some, that meant a trip to library on Saturday (5 November) with a story time programme hosted by the Rotary Central club.

Children up to age 10 were treated to costumed Rotarians who helped them interact with books about pirates, oceans and life at sea.

“In an era where people are moving away from coming to the library, I think this is an important initiative,” said Rotary Central literacy committee chair Johane Moss. “It’s beautiful here, a nice place for families to get together and read.”

Literacy is a central theme of many Rotary clubs and Ms. Moss says Rotary Central hosts story time events at least quarterly and sometimes monthly.
