Three swimmers qualify for FINA World Swimming Championships

Three local swimmers are preparing to represent the Cayman Islands in the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships next month.

Lauren Hew, Ali Jackson and Alex McCallum, have achieved the Cayman Islands FINA qualifying times and are training hard in their final preparations for this meet. These three Caymanians, join over 900 swimmers, representing 170 national federations. Many competitors who will be representing their countries participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and include such medalists as USA’s Lilly King and Josh Pernot, Canada’s Kylie Masse, Spain’s Mireia Memonte, Australia’s Bobby Hurely, South Africa’s Chad Le Clos and Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu.

The World Championships will take place in Windsor, Ontario a small Canadian town where hockey is king, but the hockey rink in the town has begun transforming into a 25 meter swimming pool. The championships will run from December 6 to 11.

Jade was one of 35 Young Reporters selected worldwide to be apart of the Young Reporters Programme by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. Jade was the Press Officer for the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. She graduated with honors in Broadcast Journalism from the University of South Florida
