Usain Bolt is set to race in Australia for the first time in his career taking part in the first edition of the Nitro Summer Series in February.
Bolt arrived to the launch of the Nitro Series on a boat across Melbourne’s Yarra River. Nitro Athletics will feature six teams of 24 athletes, 12 women and 12 men.
Teams will come from Australia, as well as internationally and will be announced in the coming weeks. Nitro Athletics is said to be unlike any other athletics competition seen before and will not just feature traditional events .
“It’s different from the conventional, just normal track and field, individual stuff. For me, as i said, if you guys follow my progress, through all of my years, one thing i always love, is competing in a relay. So the fact that now i have a full team, that i can inspire and we can compete together is a different feeling to me. I’ve never had a chance to compete in a team sport and for me this is like a team sport, so it’s exciting for me,”
Bolt’s fierce american rival Justin Gatlin, has also been linked to the event.
