36 areas nominated for protection under National Conservation Law

The National Conservation Council told Cayman 27 it has received 51 nominations for protected terrestrial areas.

At last week’s council meeting, the last of 2016, it was revealed that several lands were nominated multiple times.

In total, 36 different areas were nominated for protection; some crown lands, some privately owned lands, all of which are eligible for protection under the NCC’s criteria…

The next steps in the process are to approach the landowners of high scoring nominations, to obtain valuations of those properties from lands and survey, and to bring all nominations forward to the council for consideration.
