C3 addresses outage

C3 customers experienced internet service disruption this week, the second such incident in November. And while that situation has been resolved there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again since the company is trying to get more resilient routes.
C3 Managing director Randy Merren says the company is working to address its current capacity to maintain service in the event of outages.
However, he blames the stalled plans for rolling out resilient routes on a two-year dispute between C-3 and CUC’s subsidiary Data Link.
The dispute revolves around C3 being able to attach its plant to CUC poles to run resilient routes.
Now that matter’s before the Information and Communications Technology Authority and both parties are set to meet with ICTA soon and he’s certain a final resolution will finally be reached.
“Well it has to, it has to be resolved and if it goes unresolved the island will probably never see full deployment of fibre to every home,” Mr Merren says.
We reached out to CUC on the issue and corporate communications officer Neil Murray says a request by C3 under the ICTA dispute resolution regulations is currently under review by the ICTA.
And it cannot comment on the ongoing dispute.
Similarly, ICTA Director Alee Fa`amoe when contacted says it would be inappropriate for the authority to comment on any dispute until it has been resolved.
However, the ICTA director says, “Although the dispute in question involves just two of our licensees directly. It touches on a basic issue which impacts all of our telecomms licensees – pole attachments.”
He says the authority plans to address this issue with all the affected parties over the coming weeks. Cayman 27 and cC3 do share a mutual owner.
