Port project on Auditor General’s radar

Auditor General Sue Winspear says she’s keeping the port project on her radar, especially with the new Procurement law now in place…
The project, anticipated to be the largest capital investment project in Cayman’s history, will be subject to the law which calls for value for money and transparency in the awarding of contracts.
And Ms Winspear says her team wants to get involved early in the process to review and report on the project as it moves forward.
“I am really, really keen we look at a very early stage at these projects because that maximizes a chance of a successful project implementation. I see limited value in coming in after the event and pointing out the deficiencies. The more important thing is to look early, look at the business case and look at the objectives that are trying to be achieved,” Ms Winspear says.
