Rum Point robbery nets 11 year prison term

A man who said he was the lookout in last January’s home invasion and robbery at Rum Point is sentenced to 11 years in prison. David McLaughlin Martinez, 39, was found guilty Thursday (1 December) following a four-day trial in Grand Court.

Authorities say Mr. Martinez is as culpable as anyone else who may have been involved in the crime, citing his comment to police that he helped target the home for its valuables after having done plumbing work there two weeks earlier.

During the attack, an elderly American man was knocked unconscious with a punch, and his wife and his caregiver were threatenexssQd at knifepoint until they handed over cash, jewelry and electronics.
