Scant percentage of animal cruelty cases result in prosecution

Only a fraction of animal neglect reports result in criminal charges.
According to information released by the Department of Agriculture through an FOI request, only one out of more than 200 cases of animal cruelty or neglect reported this year moved forward with a prosecution.
The DOA revealed more than half of the 225 reports received were investigated by a single animal welfare officer.
Only one case, involving a horse, is moving forward with charges.
