Two goals from Cayman’s Elder Ebanks in the 37th and 55th minutes were not enough as Jamaica edged Cayman 3-2 Tuesday (29 May) in the opening day of the 2018 Cayman Islands Invitational Under-15 Youth Football Cup held at the Ed Bush Playing Field. Striker Daniel Miller scored all three goals for Jamaica in the 9th, 19th and 51st minutes.
Head Coach Lovane Joven says in spite of a young squad made up of mostly Under-14 players, he was proud of their effort.
“The kids played well, showed a lot of heart and courage. I think we could have pressed a little more at the end for the goal. In the end, I’m happy, they didn’t drop their heads. Tomorrow’s another night, we have another game so we will go back to the drawing board and prepare for that.
In the second game of the evening, a first half goal from Jacob Greene in the 19th minute followed by a second from Jacob Bergin 40th minute was more than enough for D.C. United to defeat Jamaica’s Portmore United 2-0. Head Coach John Bello said the team did a good job of taking control of the pace early.
“Once we kind of broke down their spirit in terms of them wanting to press and regain the ball, we were able to circulate it quite well. The key for our guys was picking key moments to expend energy and scoring a goal.”
