Hammerhead thrills divers in Little Cayman encounter

Divers in Little Cayman’s Bloody Bay marine park were treated to a close encounter with an apex predator.

Conch Club Divers’ Douglas Christoffers had his GoPro ready to go this weekend while leading a dive on the popular ‘Mixing Bowl’ dive site.

He told Cayman 27 he was hoping just to get a distant glimpse of its characteristic hammerhead features, and then the shark made a complete 180.

“At that moment, which is very uncharacteristic, it turned back around, and swam directly towards us and cruised right by all of us, it was fantastic,” said Mr. Christoffers. “As it swam away, we all started high fiving and cheering as much as you can underwater. A very exciting experience.”

Of course, the video went straight to social media, his caption: ‘all I can say is ‘wow.’
