Hurricane season terminology explained by NWS

The National Weather Service continues its public education programme with a timely topic: the hurricane season.

With hurricane season officially underway effective Friday, 1 June, the NWS is sharing a list of definitions for key weather terms you might hear in forecasts and weather reports during the next several months.

“Things like tropical wave: what is a tropical wave? What’s a hurricane? What are things like storm surge and stuff like that, things that you are likely to hear more frequently during the hurricane season,” said Mr. Tibbetts.

You can view the complete list of the Hurricane season associated systems and warnings here.
