Invasive lionfish on the menu once again for CULL’s 26th tournament

Calling all lionfish hunters: Cayman United Lionfish League (CULL) is back with it’s 26th lionfish tournament, and this one has a Scooby Doo theme.

The Great Lionfish Caper kicks off this weekend, and cullers will once again be competing for $3,200 in cash prizes courtesy of Gold Sponsor Foster’s Food fair.

CULL #25 set records for the fewest number of lionfish in tournament history: a reflection of declining populations around the islands.

“These tournaments are definitely proving important, we have to keep going with them because even though the last few tournaments have had loan numbers, what we saw in the last tournament- which was a little scary, was a resurgence of the small fish. We are also starting to hear of more bigger fish on the wall again,” said CULL member Mark Orr.

Registration for CULL 26 is Thursday night from 5 to 8 PM at Vivo Cafe and Restaurant located at Lighthouse Point in West Bay.

Weigh-ins are Saturday and Sunday (2-3 June) from 4 to 6 PM at the same location.

Lionfish samples will be served.
