Moves are underway to convene a high-level technical meeting in the Caribbean to develop a regional hurricane response plan and Cayman will be part of those discussions.
UK Overseas Territories Minister Lord Tariq Ahmad made the disclosure on Wednesday (30 May) during his brief visit here.
He said the meeting will include the UK, independent Caribbean countries like Jamaica and Barbados and other strategic partners like the US, Canada, France and the Netherlands
“To ensure that we establish a Caribbean regional response, establish what assets are in place, who has what facility in place they can bring to the table. That meeting will be convening at the end of June. Everyone has worked very hard over the many months since the last season to ensure we get to that place,” Lord Ahmad said.
He explained that after that plan is formulated it will be endorsed by regionally Ministers at another meeting he intends to convene.
