Scotiabank’s ‘This Week in Little League’

Here is your look at the Cayman Islands Little League for week of the playoffs ending 2nd June:

 
Girls Softball
Kirk Freeport 10
GCM 3
A nine-run second inning helped Kirk Freeport defeat GCM 10-3.
 
Coldwell Banker 7
GCM 0 (Forfeit)
With only seven players at game time, GCM played to a 7-0 loss before a forfeit.
 
Coldwell Banker 13
Kirk Freeport 3
An eight run fifth inning helped Coldwell Banker to a 13-3 victory over Kirk Freeport. With the teams  just half a game apart in the standings, the win gave Coldwell Banker the regular season championship.

Greenlight RE 20
Saxon 19
Peyton Pinedo was 3 for 3 with his 1st home run of the season and 4 RBIs for Saxon, while Michael Souza was 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored. Saxon’s Rogan O’Connell just missed the cycle going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, home run and 7 RBIs. For Greenlight, Matthew Bonikowski was 1 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs, while Niqwon Forbes, Kaylyn McLean and Makane Peterson were each 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, and Keion McLean turned an unassisted double-play at 1st base.
 
Greenlight and Cayman Water will play for the Pony Division Championships.
 
Double AA 
 
Logic 4
Encompass 3
 
Double AA’s first playoff game turned into an exciting pitchers duel. Logic’s Stephanie Menko struck out four, while Louie Ch’ng pitched in with five strikeouts on the mound. In the loss, Encompass’ Neil McComb led the way with 12 strikeouts, while Dylan Bergman struck out seven batters.

Digicel 9
Logic won their second playoff game securing their place in championships. Michael Santiago led the way with 6 strikeouts, while
Louie Ch’ng retired four batters. In the loss, Digicel’s Lucas Jimenez provided strong defense at third base while striking out three batters.
