Gov’t workers grow by 178, current service stands at 3678 employees

Government’s core workforce has grown by 178 in 18-months, settling at 3678.

But only 70 of those new employees are Caymanian and Opposition MLA Chris Saunders says that needs to change.

During Wednesday’s (24 October) Public Accounts Committee meeting, Mr. Saunders raised the issue of the staff increases.

“Even with the growth within the civil service, it is growing at a fast rate of non-Caymanians to Caymanians and that is something I think needs to be addressed,” the Bodden Town West MLA said.
He pointed out that there was a lack of training and lack of succession planning in the government service.

But acting Deputy Governor Hon. Gloria McField-Nixon said strides are being made to tackle those issues.
