GMO project ends, Seymour: It was not working

Health Minister Hon. Dwayne Seymour pulls the plug on the MRCU Oxitec project.
He said funding for the project will end 31 December.
Mr. Seymour made the announcement Thursday (22 November) following questions from Bodden Town West MLA Chris Saunders.
He told lawmakers the Genetically Modified mosquito project was not getting the results they were expecting.
“I was not comfortable with the methods being utilised, and for them to try a different method just because the one they were utilizing did not work and putting the Caymainas as guinea pigs and you do not really know what is going on,” Mr. Seymour said.
He said the government has spent $580, 000 on the project.
Recently, the MRCU stopped the release of GMO mosquitoes.
They indicated that they were in the process of reviewing data collected under the project.
