Health Minister addresses concerns about water sports companies being equipped for emergencies

Cayman has recorded 12 water-related deaths so far this year and Health Minister Hon. Dwayne Seymour said it is important all water-related companies have safety equipment to help in emergency situations.

Minister Seymour said although the law mandating safety equipment is yet to be approved in the LA, he wants all water sports companies to be prepared for emergencies.

“It’s in the best interest of the water sports operators to actually use best practices until the law comes in place. In essence, if we continue having so many incidents the water sports operations are going to be the losers, because this is going to go viral. It’s going to be an international concern and we are going to lose business,” said Mr. Seymour.

The minister made the point Tuesday night (27 November) while speaking at a safety at sea seminar at the George Town Yacht Club.
