Works of art from nearly two dozen notable local artists went on the auction block to support the National Gallery.
The Big Art Auction 5 took place Thursday night (1 November) at the National Gallery.
Volunteer auctioneer Phillip Pachiledes hosted the Sotheby’s style auction, where attendees engaged in some spirited bidding.
Final sale prices on the 23 pieces ranged from $1,800 to $6,000.
“This is a major fundraiser for the national gallery, it’s one of three we do each year, and we are just going to have some fun tonight and we are going to raise some money for the national collection and art related programmes for people of all ages, and it’s a great turnout,” said National Gallery Director Natalie Urquhart.
Proceeds from the Big Art Auction 5 are split 50/50 between the gallery and the artists, to ensure the project remains sustainable and of benefit to both parties.
