An 80-year-old US visitor has died while snorkeling in North Sound.
The RCIPS confirmed the incident in a brief statement on Thursday (29 November) morning.
Police say shortly after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday (28 November) the 9-1-1 Communications Centre received a report of a person in distress in the waters of North Sound.
They say a man was out on a snorkeling trip when he lost consciousness after entering the water.
He was assisted back aboard the vessel he had been on where CPR was performed on him as the vessel returned to shore.
Police say the man was then transported by EMS to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Police have not released the identity of the visitor. It is their policy not to release the identity until relatives of the deceased are informed.
This latest death takes Cayman water-related death toll to 13 so far for 2018.
