RCIPS launch new mobile app

A new mobile app is available on your smartphone app store from Friday (30 November)… and its not from Silicone Valley, but from the RCIPS right here on island.

The app is free to download and it offers alerts and emergency updates as well as contact information for your local beat officer.

You can also submit your tips – confidentially – on the platform… as RCIPS Communications Manager Jacqueline Carpenter explained.

“There is a button right in the middle of the home screen of the app called “submit a tip” you just tap on that,” she said, adding: “you can either just send us some text (what it is you think we should know about) or you can upload a photo or video from your phone and send it to us.”

Ms. Carpenter stressed the service is encrypted and, as a result, anonymous for people to use.

“You don’t have to tell us who you are to use the submit a tip function,” she emphasised.

So if you want to look up road closure information ahead of Sunday (2 December)’s marathon, the app should be your first port of call.

But the RCIPS also said if you witness a serious crime or an emergency, you should always call 911 first.
