Bodden Town striker Theron Wood wasn’t going to play his club’s Round Nine Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) game Saturday (3 February) at the T.E McField Sports Complex due to injury.
North Side Football Club wish he would have kept his word.
The national team standout scored three times (33′, 54′, 75′) en route to a 6-1 victory. The win moves the 2016-17 league champions into third overall in the tables, just two points behind league leaders Elite Sports Club.
“I came out because we were short, and I scored three goals,” said Wood. “The top team isn’t far away, hopefully we don’t slip up and we cross them.”
Elite SC (7-2-0) maintained it’s spot atop the league with a 7-1 win over 11th place East End (2-7-0). Academy Sports Club (6-3-0) held down second in the tables with a 8-0 win over 13th placed Tigers Football Club (1-1-7). Scholars International (6-2-1) sits in fourth overall after a 6-0 win over ninth placed Cayman Athletic (2-1-6). Roma United (5-4-0) sits in fifth overall after a 1-1 draw with tenth placed George Town (1-3-5). Seventh place Latinos Football Club (4-2-3) edged last place Alliance Sports Club (0-0-9) 2-1.</p
Elite SC, Academy SC and Roma United all remain undefeated on the season.
In the sole Round Five women’s league game, Elite Sports Club (3-3-0) defeated Roma United (0-1-5) 4-0 to maintain second overall. They trail Scholars International women (4-2-0) who sit in first. Sunset Football Club (1-2-3) are third, with Roma in fourth.
