Three Cayman Islands National youth football teams are slated to kick off in international competition this year.
The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) National teams committee has decided that Cayman’s Girls Under-15, Boys Under-17 and Men’s Under-20 teams will be in action.
The Girls U-15 squad will play in the CONCACAF Championships for that age group while the boys U-17 and Men’s U-20 squads will take part in Caribbean Football Union competitions.
The men’s and women’s senior teams are not scheduled to compete. Acting CIFA President Bruce Blake, however, says he wants to see those teams get together.
“We would like to get them together as soon as possible,” Blake said. “We don’t have any tournaments this year scheduled for them but we would like the team to come together at least once a month because to have your youth teams training, they need something to aspire to. So it’s always good to have your senior programmes up and running.”
