Commissioner of Police says new custody suites will help police collect better evidence to prosecute criminals.
David Baines feels the current set-up at George Town Police Station, gives suspects the chance to concoct a story before being interviews.
“Separating those who need separating right from arrest stage that doesn’t give them the opportunity to concoct a story or defence jointly,” said Mr. Baines.
“That makes sure we are able to use the best of the opportunity to get to the truth and will support investigators in their role because we have given them modern facilities that meet the requirements of a 21st century judiciary but also give us investigators best opportunity for best evidence.”
Mr. Baines hopes after some final checks, the new modular suites will be open sometime in January.
