Parziale, Wilkinson take Cayman Open singles titles

Dana Parziale and Jade Wilkinson over the weekend emerged as men’s and women’s singles champions at the 2016 PwC Cayman Open at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club.

Parziale won on the men’s side in straight sets by beating Karl Hale 6-4, 6-4.

“It’s feels great,” Parziale said afterward. “It’s a good start to my year. I usually don’t get to play too many tournaments throughout the year. So it’s good to start the year off with a win.  I’m hoping to keep playing in some more tournaments this year, maybe some international events. This is a good jumping off point for the rest of the year.”

Wilkinson took the women’s crown by beating Sharon Runk 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

Here are the doubles results from the weekend’s play:

Men’s doubles
Parziale/Fernandez def. Theaker/Fawcett 6-4, 6-3
Women’s doubles
Blocher/Wilkinson def. Runk/Sher 6-4, 6-2
Mixed doubles
Blocher/Parziale def. Runk/Hale 8-4
