One Sister Islands sports leader says it’s a huge benefit when Cayman Brac hosts competitions.
The Brac will host several games at the upcoming Cayman Airways Invitational Under-15 Youth Cup later this year. It has played host to other competitions before, like CONCACAF age-group tournaments.
Cayman Brac Football Club’s Mitchum Sanford says he can see how it helps the island’s sporting community rally.
“The entire sports complex that we have on the bluff is packed,” Sanford told Cayman 27. “Every night, everyone is looking forward to it. Even in our Premier League or First Division matches here in the Brac, the fans are packing the place. We get more fans — I’m sorry to say this — than most teams that you would have over there in the bigger island. So this is an amazing opportunity. Cayman Brackers really support us in all of our matches, whether it’s at the youth level or whether it’s at the men’s level.”
Government in 2014 spent nearly three-quarters of a million dollars to get the Brac playing field up to international standard.
