Two Cayman Airways youth football tourneys to kick off

Some clarification on a pair of upcoming football tournaments with nearly identical titles.

Cayman Airways is the title sponsor for two upcoming competitions — the Cayman Airways Invitational Under-15 Youth Football Cup, in May, and the Cayman Airways Invitational Youth Cup for players under 14, in June.

“West Bay Sports Foundation and Academy Sports Club over the past two years have come together to essentially create this tournament,” West Bay Sports Foundation’s Mervin Smith said on the 27 January episode of Let’s Talk Sports. “And the tournament has grown. We’ve been able to attract a lot more teams over the years. The first year was six teams. The second year was eight teams and now we’re probably up to 12 ourselves. So it was an opportunity to do two tournaments where more funds could be raised. Behind the thinking was, “hey let’s see what we can do to maximise on the popularity of it.”

The under-15 tournament has received confirmation from several high-profile clubs, including Manchester City.
