Since 2004, The Cayman Arts Festival has been bringing world class performers to Cayman’s stage. Running 17 – 26 February, this year’s festival will feature a number of performers, with different musical styles.
One of the finest orchestras of the international stage will kick off the festival. The London Philharmonic Orchestra’s soloist will perform a number of pieces from its repertoire. Another featured performer is violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn. Pitcairn is noted for performing on the 1721 Red Mendelssohn violin, which is said to have inspired the film The Red Violin. Young musical prodigy Joey Alexander will also take the stage. The 11 year-old will be accompanied by his jazz trio. Rounding out the list of performers is Mokhtar Samaba.
In addition to the headline performers, the festival will feature a number of fringe events. These will include collaborations with the National Gallery and the Visual Arts Society. Another highlight will be the Rising Stars performance, which features the finalists of the Butterfield Young Musician of the Year competition.
Education is a core component of the festival. The visiting performers will hosts workshops with students from various schools on island.
