Ethics committee focuses on youth mental health

Cayman’s Ethics Committee is a grouping that aims to assists with mitigation of ethical issues, usually within the medical field. The committee is made up of people from a number of backgrounds.¬†Members of the Ethics committee include; Ms. Amanda Roberts Chairman, Dr. Clement Von Kirchenheim, Ms Angeline Shillingford, Dr. John Lee, Dr. Ginny Hobday, Rev. Randy Von Kanel, Nurse Graham Tully, Nurse Chris Algaratnam, Nurse Shawn Biscette, Mr. Colin Medford and Ms Lagene Johnson.

The committee is putting a spotlight on youth mental health, with an upcoming seminar. The seminar will focuses highly on minor consent, with two speakers, Dr. Catherine Day and Dr. Marc Lockhart, both presenting on the topic. A real life example of ethical issues that arise with minor consent includes, a child suing their parents, or a child refusing to take medical treatment for an illness.
