In the month of March Cayman will join the rest of the world in commemorating Honouring Women’s Month. The month is focused on bringing attention to women’s issues, and equal rights. This year the them is “Step it Up for Gender Equality”.
Miriam Foster, of the Family Resource Centre (FRC) says Honouring Women’s Month isn’t something that should just concern women, but men as well. “As soon as a sector of the community is feeling under valued or their worth is not appreciated there is always going to be things that arise” she says. Mrs. Foster also points out that equality doesn’t mean the same, it’s about equal value.
To celebrate the FRC has a number of events planned. Things kick off with a church services on 7 March at the Kings Seventh Day Adventist Church. The following day, 8 March, is International Women’s Day. The FRC will host a screening of the film He Named Me Malala. The following weekend will be the FRC’s Colour Me Purple race. Other events include a self care day, and take your daughter/son to work day.
