Big changes are here for boaters accessing Camana Bay from the North Sound. The aim is to make navigating the channels safer for all vessels.
Camana Bay has introduced a new one-way traffic pattern for watercraft in and out of the North Sound.
Inbound traffic now flows into the harbour through the north channel, and outbound traffic flows to the North Sound through the south channel.
“It’s unique in Cayman and it’s somewhat unique around the world to have a one-way channel system in any area of the world. Most channels, it’s wide enough or they don’t need that precedent, or it’s a dead end so they are two-way, but I think it’s going to be self-explanatory,” said senior manager of facilities for Camana Bay, Chip Ogilvie.
The changes are designed to better accomodate larger vessels, while eliminating a “blind corner” in the south channel and a crossover point for boat traffic.
