Cayman next year is slated to host the region’s most prestigious amateur golf tournament — the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships.
Appearing on the 30 March episode of Let’s Talk Sports, Cayman Islands Golf Association Competitions Committee Chairperson Daniel Fortune spoke about the tournament and Cayman’s prospects for this year’s event. He then broke a bit of news about the competition for next year.
“I would say we’re looking pretty solid,” he said.
“I think it’s a big one. And also it’ll be a good preparation as well because next year we’re due to host that here. So we’ll be obviously really wanting to do well here as well. So hopefully with a bit of luck — a rub of the green shall we say — we can bring something home this year.”
A CIGA spokesperson said the 2017 edition of the event likely will be held in early August. Details are yet to be finalised. The Caribbean Golf Association is scheduled to meet next month, where the 2017 championships will be discussed.
