George Town MLA Winston Connolly says he would still like to help the Progressives government with a review of the country’s energy policy even though he left the caucus to become an independent member.
Tweeting from a London conference on sustainable development, Mr. Connolly says lawmakers are being reminded that clean energy initiatives must be bi-partisan and, to that end, he is waiting to hear if he will still be allowed to chair an energy policy review committee to which was named prior to his defection. Mr. Connolly says it remains critical for the public sector to show leadership in sustainable development projects so that private sector ideas have an easier time winning financial support.
He says, “We can’t just leave it to the private sector and wait to see if there’s a way to make money before they come in and do it. We have to set up the legislative framework and financial incentives packages.”
