“No. 1” sevens team rolls to bowl title in Vegas

The Cayman Islands 1 team over the weekend clinched the Americas Cup division bowl finals title at the Las Vegas Invitational sevens rugby tournament.

Cayman beat Peru 28-19 in the final. The Americas class is the top division of the tournament.

Cayman Islands 2 also played in that division. It reached the plate semifinals before losing to Stars Rugby 1, 15-10.

Playing in the men’s aces division — the second-tier class of sevens rugby — Cayman Islands 3 reached the bowl quarterfinals before bowing out.

Cayman’s three teams went 4-11 overall at the tournament. The competition marked the final chance for coaches to evaluate potential national team players to represent Cayman at the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens Series.
