Ambulance needs addressed

Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson is leading the charge of a 5K Run/Walk, where money will be donated to the Cayman Heart Fund to purchase a new ambulance for the island.

The Health Services Authority (HSA) says there are currently five ambulances on island with one ambulance each assigned to the districts of West Bay, George Town and North Side, with two additional spare units also in circulation.

The HSA says the new ambulance will replace one of the older spare units, while adding to the total number of ambulances available to serve the community. The Heart Fund says $50,000 has already been raised towards purchasing the new ambulance and the Deputy Governor believes his initiative is expected to raise the same amount or more, in hopes of hitting the targeted mark of $150, 000 to purchase the new ambulance.

The Deputy Governor says he will do his part in making sure the community will come out in numbers to raise the money and believes the expected time frame to have all the money by Christmas is feasible.

“Certainly I am going to do my part and I am hoping to exceed expectations and hopefully we will give a little bit more than $50,000 but that’s why I am encouraging everybody to come out. The Heart Fund knows their targets, so I am sure they will be able to hit their Christmas deadline,” saidMr Manderson.
