Despite shovels not being in the ground, the Ministry of Education said administrative works are being done, in efforts to resume construction on the John Gray High School site.
Chief Officer of the Ministry of Education Christen Suckoo said delays to the buildings were financially-related and resumption will take place in June this year. Mr. Suckoo further explained the importance of building the gymnasium before other buildings, which he describes as “the guts” of the entire campus.
“We will have one site to manage where all of our students, particularly for a larger exam, English and Math one site where all the students can take the exam at once. It’s also important in terms of being able to run whole school assemblies, having all the students in front of the staff and management of the school at one time so key messages can be delivered and so key activities can take place, that’s very important, obviously there’s a strong enhancement to the delivery of P.E in terms of indoor activities,” Mr. Suckoo said.
He added, that the Ministry of Education is in talks with contractors and plans to hire properly skilled personnel to complete the additions to the premises. The gymnasium is expected to be used for the sitting of major exams, administrative meetings and an NCAA basketball tournament in 2017.
