NORCECA’s Cayman Islands tournament set to open serve

The Cayman Islands stop of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour opens serve on 22 April.

Public Beach has been groomed and stands and tents set up around the three-court competition area. Several foreign teams 21 April were seen practicing and getting used to the conditions.

The Cayman Islands has become a staple of the NORCECA tour and the event has become a hit with fans and foreign players alike.

“All the athletes, they want to come to the Cayman Islands,” Trinidad and Tobago’s Ayana Dyette said. “So the top teams from each country will be representing. So it’s gonna be some really tough and good competition here.”

Teams from 11 countries around North America, Central America and the Caribbean will take part. The schedule will be formed during a technical meeting held 21 April.

“From the players point of view, first and foremost, is the organisation,” said Canada’s Brandie Wilkerson, who finished runner-up last year. “It’s a lot easier to just focus on the game when you know that everything is being taken care of event-wise, game-wise, scheduling, food, everything means so much to us. Other than that, the support and the fans are fu n. The environment is great. The beach is beautiful, so you’re always lucky to come here.”

The tournament runs 22-24 April.
