Students face off in numbers challenge

It was a two-day event for high-school students across the country in the Minds Inspired Programme Math Challenge.

High school seniors sharpened their pencils and screwed on their thinking caps at the UCCI gym, competing for medals, prizes and ultimately the Trophy of “Overall Champion.”

This is the fourth time the challenge has taken place. Manager of Education Programs at Dart Glenda McTaggart says that mathematics is a great way of screening for potential employers in the science and technology fields.

“We believe that math and science are the cornerstones of education and career success, we have many professionals that work in our organisation that use math everyday, whether it’s engineering, whether finance, there are many areas that are very focused on mathematics,” McTaggart said.

The event was moderated by selected maths teachers from all schools who coached their teams before heading into the challenge.
