A jury has been sworn in to try a Canadian woman charged with stealing more than two million dollars from an elderly man. Michelle Bouchard was in Cayman on a student visa when she was first charged in June of 2013. At that time, police said she and the victim knew each other.
Ms. Bouchard was originally charged with eight counts of theft, one transfer of criminal property, forgery and obtaining property by deception. Those charges came after an eight-month police investigation. While the jury was sworn in this morning, it is unlikely they’ll begin hearing evidence until tomorrow.
