An independent MLA who left the Progressives benches is concerned PPM campaign donors might have received a first look at the government’s budget.
Winston Connolly based his concerns on this advertisement for a two-hundred dollar a head event on which the flyer headlined “Annual budget highlights and fundraiser dinner” where “Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin will reveal the 18-month budget.”
On last night’s Cayman 27 News (24 March), Mr. Connolly said this is a worry as the opposition benches have not yet had a look at the document.
We spoke this morning (25 March) to the premier’s office who says no details of the budget were revealed at the dinner. Since then, we received a press release about the dinner where it was said the only glimpse into the new 18-month budget was the news that it did not include any duty or tax increases and complied with all the principles of responsible financial management as set out in the Public Management and Finance Law(PMFL) and the Framework for Fiscal Responsibility (FFR).
The budget is with the UK and government is hoping for the thumbs up this week.
