Cuban boat engine still beached in South Sound

Most of a makeshift Cuban vessel beached in south sound for more than a month has been carted away.

Right now, all that’s left of the derelict vessel is the engine and some scraps of wood and other debris.  Cayman 27 was there last Friday (3 Jun) when Immigration and four Cuban detainees dismantled the boat.

The engine was too heavy for the men to lift by hand.

Immigration said Public Works is waiting for a part on a piece of heavy equipment to lift the engine, and right now, there is no concrete timeline for the engine’s removal.

Immigration says the engine has been drained of all fluids.
