DOE opens fish conservation plan to public comment

A new fish conservation plan from the Department of Environment is open for public review and consultation. That’s Cayman 27’s top story for Tuesday, June 21st.

The draft does not call for a significant overhaul of existing rules, for instance, it continues species protections for sharks, rays, and Goliath grouper. However, the plan does include take limits for a few new species who have never received protection, namely parrotfish.

DOE Director Gina Ebanks-Petrie joined Cayman 27’s News Director Tammi Sulliman to discuss the reasoning behind the plan.

The public is asked to email their comments on the draft to The deadline for feedback is August 19th.
