The Department of Vehicle and Equipment Services told Cayman 27 work will soon begin to improve its facilities.
DVES Director Richard Simms said the first phase of works will include a new administration building.
He said funding has also been secured to make improvements to the garage.
He said the renovations will help make for a better workplace for staff to maintain the nearly one thousand vehicles in the Cayman Islands fleet.
“The office space is cramped, and that will give the staff some relief, and it will also give some cover to the mechanics, because as you can see out there it’s an open environment, especially even it comes to inclement weather, we have to make adjustments,” said Mr. Simms.
Mr. Simms said the project has already secured planning approval. Then, the plan will go to tender.
That’s expected in the next month or two, and a contract should be awarded by September.
