Expansion is in the cards for the new and popular farmers market at the cricket grounds.
Premier Alden McLaughlin announced in his budget policy speech Monday (30 May) that a second wing will be built to accommodate more farmers and craftspeople.
Market manager Verlene Kelly told Cayman 27 Saturdays have become so popular, there’s now a waiting list for vendors.
She’s hoping expansion plans will include a small office for her to take care of administrative work.
“Things like a photocopier, I need to photocopy a contract for someone, I don’t have it. I have to go somewhere else to do it,” said Ms. Kelly. “An office is desperately needed at the market.”
She told Cayman 27 she uses her car for an office at times, and has to leave the site at other time to take care of certain functions. She said an office building could also be used to celebrate Cayman’s farming heritage with an agricultural hall-of fame component.
