Hurricane season has officially begun here in the Caribbean. So far this year forecasters are predicting it to be an active one, compared to recent years.
There has already been two named storms, Hurricane Alex back in January, and tropical storm Bonnie over the past few days. Forecasters are also watching what might be the latest depression in the developing stages in the southern Gulf of Mexico.
Premier Alden McLaughlin used today to urge everyone to get their supplies and plans in order. He said, “Be certain that you have your hurricane supplies as well as full prescriptions of your medicines and, if you live in a high risk or vulnerable area, plan your escape route to the nearest hurricane shelter.” He added, “Government preparedness cannot be a substitute for personal preparedness. We all need to be ready so that we can survive any storms that come our way and be in a better position to do any necessary rebuilding.”
Of course, Cayman 27 will bring you any developments related to hurricanes or storms during the season.
