The National Roads Authority is using the upcoming lower levels of traffic that accompany school vacations as a convenient starting point for expanding their project to widen the East-West Arterial from Red Bay to Prospect.
The long-term goal is to eventually widen the highway to three lanes in each direction from the Dr. Tomlinson roundabout to the DMS roundabout near Grand Harbour. Some of that work will begin in conjunction with a reconfiguration of the Red Bay roundabout. Work there is now underway in order to slant the pavement inward for safer driving.
As road expansion work begins, traffic flow will be changed as needed. Some traffic will be diverted onto old Shamrock Road or Prospect Point Road. During those times, access from the Red Bay roundabout will be restricted and drivers may need to exit prior to that point. The NRA reminds drivers to pay attention to the signage and slow down throughout the work zone.
