The Ready2Work KY programme is up and running but government says the work initiative is not for everyone. Nearly a fifth of those who signed up have stepped out.

Government says those people had various barriers the programme was not designed to deal with like mental health issues. It was made clear that those who chose to step out or who were asked to step out, did not leave because they did not want to be there. “Not surprised at the figure. There are a lot of barriers that the NWDA cannot deal with. We can provide services or direction. A lot of them are willing to, but some understand these are barriers are a little bit more than they can deal with right now and they understand they are not quite ready to get into the workforce,” said National Workforce Development Agency Training & Development Manager.

The comments were made on Thursday (9 June) on The Panel. Ms. Conolly and Deputy Employment Chief Officer Dr. Tasha Ebanks-Garcia are pleased with how the programme is running.
So far 41 people have been placed in various business for training.
