New bus routes cause concerns

New bus routes for buses labelled 8B and 9B travelling through South Sound road have caused some hysteria amongst bus drivers and passengers alike. Passengers travelling through new routes have voiced concerns about a lack of buses available to each route while some have made the case for earlier buses on the routes as well as a directory with time schedules showing the departure and arrival times for buses.

Bus Driver Christopher Gardner who has been travelling the new route for some months now said bus drivers are tied to the amount of passengers on the bus when leaving the depot since not many passengers are available on the routes.

“For the bus that going way to North Side to leave the bus park for just two people going around South Sound then you have to continue the route to go straight to Cayman Kai with nobody in the bus. You can’t live like that way you know, Mr. Gardner said.

Passenger Jane Seymour has been waiting on her bus for almost two hours and she believes that more buses should be on the new routes. “I think that you need three buses on that route at least three buses and those buses should not be leaving George Town going on the new part and then going all the way into East End and coming back which it leaves a elderly person here waiting at least more than an hour and a half maybe to catch that bus again,” Ms. Seymour said.

The Public Transport Unit is expected to respond to the concerns of both sides on the new routes as well as the state of our Public Transport.
