Cayman is now home to more than 2,500 Filipino work permit holders, so it comes as no surprise that the reigning Miss Universe was well- received during events here this past weekend.

Pia Wurtzbach is the first Filipino Miss Universe since 1973 and came here, in part, to mark “Pinoy Pride Independence Month.”

“I know that there’s a growing Filipino community here so I’d like to say thank you for taking the time tonight to come here, to see me, to unite and celebrate and this is not just about the Filipino community but about our unity with Cayman Islands,” said the reigning Miss Universe.

Ms. Wurtzbach was joined by our reigning “Miss Cayman Islands,” Monyque Brooks for events at Lobster Pot and the Lions Centre.
