Storm season is upon us, giving us cloudy signs that hurricane season has begun and the sister islands are no strangers to getting prepared.

Representatives from the sister islands emergency center have come to Grand Cayman to meet with the national emergency operations center, to encourage hurricane preparedness all throughout Cayman. The operations center makes sure that hurricane shelters  provide the necessary safety and security for those in need.

“We are well fitted with our shelters and their locations, you know to deal with things like storm surge and even the wind, so the need to evacuate is not that great and we have enough shelter space to actually take care of our entire population, including visitors and tourists, if they get stuck there or if they choose to stay there for the hurricane,” said Ernie Scott, Sister Islands District Commissioner.

Mr. Scott also says that all of the hurricane shelters in Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are substantially above sea level and have enough cots for its residents.
